Tanzania and Angola have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen investment and economic ties during Tanzanian President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s state visit to Angola from April 7 to 9, 2025.
The agreement, signed between the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) and the Angola Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX), aims to enhance collaboration in key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, industrial development, and the blue economy.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Luanda, President Samia emphasized the importance of the MoU in fostering trade and investment opportunities between the two nations.
She described the agreement as a significant step toward unlocking the economic potential of both countries.
President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço of Angola echoed these sentiments, highlighting the mutual benefits of the partnership.
As part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, President Samia announced that Tanzania will waive tourist visa requirements for Angolan citizens, a move aimed at promoting tourism and people-to-people connections.
This follows Angola’s decision last year to remove visa requirements for Tanzanians.
President Lourenço also accepted an invitation to visit Tanzania in July 2026, where he will be the guest of honor at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, which will include a business forum for Tanzanian and Angolan entrepreneurs.
During the visit, the two leaders also witnessed the signing of a defense cooperation agreement, further solidifying the partnership between the two nations.
In a separate engagement, President Samia addressed the Angolan Parliament, calling for African nations to unite in the economic struggle with the same determination that their founding leaders demonstrated in the fight against colonialism.
She also announced Tanzania’s plans to reopen its embassy in Angola to further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations.
