New Industrial Town Planned for Kilimanjaro

The Kilimanjaro region will see the development of a new business and industrial town focussed on the processing of raw materials.

The announcement was made by Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Mr Leonidas Gama and it is hoped that the new town will widen business opportunities and stimulate economic development in the region.

The industrial town will create value by instead of selling raw materials as they are, processing them into new products that can be targeted at both domestic and foreign markets.

The project will also receive support and collaboration from the Government through utilization of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Traditionally the Kilimanjaro region has been internationally renowned for its tourism industry, which saw 687,525 passengers move through the Kilimanjaro International Airport in the year ending October 2013.
