The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has opened applications for the second cohort of its Fintech Regulatory Sandbox, with the window running until 23rd October 2025.
The program is open to fintech companies and financial service providers developing innovative financial products and services not currently regulated under existing BoT frameworks.
Applications must be submitted through the Fintech Regulatory Sandbox Application Portal at https://frsp.bot.go.tz/, in line with the Bank of Tanzania (Fintech Regulatory Sandbox) Regulations, 2024.
The initiative provides a controlled environment where new financial solutions can be tested with real users while ensuring financial stability and consumer protection.
According to BoT, the Sandbox also facilitates collaboration with international regulators, with the Bank reserving the right to publish relevant applicant information without disclosing proprietary or intellectual property data.
Announcing the opening, Sauda K. Msemo, Deputy Governor for Financial Stability and Deepening, emphasized the Bank’s commitment to supporting financial innovation and deepening access to financial services in Tanzania.
Fintech Sandbox in Tanzania
The Bank of Tanzania launched its Fintech Regulatory Sandbox in January 2025 with quarterly application windows throughout the year.
The first cohort attracted applications in areas such as digital lending, payments, and blockchain-based solutions.
The framework was introduced under the Bank of Tanzania Act No. 4 of 2006 and formalized through the Fintech Regulatory Sandbox Regulations, 2024.
Its objective is to encourage innovation in the financial sector, promote financial inclusion, and enable the regulator to adapt policies in line with emerging technologies.
