Tanzania Annual Inflation Remain Relatively Stable at 5.2% in May 2016

The National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS) indicates that the Annual Headline Inflation Rate remained relatively stable at 5.2% in May 2016 compared to 5.1% in April 2016.

Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages Inflation Rate recorded in April 2016 slightly decreased to 7% from 7.1% recorded in April 2016.

The Annual Inflation Rate for food consumed at home and away from home decreased to 7.2% in May 2016 from 7.3% recorded in March 2016.

However, the 12 month index change for non food products increased to 3.8% in May 2016 from 3.5% in April 2016.

The Annual Inflation Rate which excludes food and energy stood at 3.0% in May 2016 as it was recorded in April 2016.

The purchasing power of 100 Tanzanian Shillings reached TZS97 and 09 cents in May 2016 from December, 2015. It was TZS97 and 60 cents in April 2016.

After a peak of 6.8% in December 2015, inflation in Tanzania has been steadily decreasing reaching 5.1% in April 2016.

Tanzania Inflation Stayed at 3.4% in September 2025 with Food Prices Easing to 7.0%

The annual headline inflation rate in Tanzania remained stable at 3.4% in September 2025, while annual food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation eased to 7.0%. Between August and September 2025, prices of specific goods such as cocoyams (+8.9%), sweet potatoes (+7.6%), industrially bred live chicken (+5.0%), dried peas (+4.0%), and sorghum flour (+3.6%) recorded the largest monthly increases, driving the overall rise in the National Consumer Price Index to 119.86.
