Tanzania Annual Inflation Decrease to 3.9% in March 2018

TANZANIA INFLATION MARCH 2018

The National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS) indicates that Annual Headline Inflation Rate for the month of March 2018 has decreased to 3.9% from 4.1% recorded in February 2018.

The overall index went up to 112.70 in March 2018 from 108.44 recorded in March 2017.

Food and Non-Food Inflation Rates
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Inflation Rate for the month of March 2018 has decreased to 4.7% from 5.4% recorded in February 2018.

The 12-month index change for non-food products in March 2018 has increased to 3.5% from 3.3% recorded in February 2018

Inflation Rate Excluding Food and Energy
The Annual Inflation Rate which excludes food and energy for the month of March 2018 has slightly decreased to 1.6% from 1.7% recorded in February 2018

Monthly Headline Inflation Rate
The Consumer Price Index from February 2018 to March 2018 has changed by 1.2%, compared to a change of 1.1% recorded from January 2018 to February 2018.

The overall index has increased to 112.70 in March 2018 from 111.33 recorded in February 2018.

The increase of the overall index is attributed to the price increase for both food and non-food items. Some food items that contributed to such an increase include; rice by 3.8%, maize grains by 4.1%, fresh fish by 2.6%, vegetables by 5.3%, cassava flour by 1.9% and sardines by 4.3%.

On the other hand, non-food items that contributed to such an increase include; kerosene by 1.2%, charcoal by 2.7% and diesel by 3.1%.

Tanzania Inflation Stayed at 3.4% in September 2025 with Food Prices Easing to 7.0%

The annual headline inflation rate in Tanzania remained stable at 3.4% in September 2025, while annual food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation eased to 7.0%. Between August and September 2025, prices of specific goods such as cocoyams (+8.9%), sweet potatoes (+7.6%), industrially bred live chicken (+5.0%), dried peas (+4.0%), and sorghum flour (+3.6%) recorded the largest monthly increases, driving the overall rise in the National Consumer Price Index to 119.86.
