Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange Report – Week 51, 2024: Turnover Surges by 221%, NMG Gains 19%

The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) recorded a turnover of TZS 12.44 billion in Week 51, 2024, a significant increase of 221.03% compared to TZS 3.87 billion in Week 50. Trading volume also rose sharply by 92.78%, reaching 3.46 million shares. High-value trades in 15-year and 25-year bonds continued to dominate the bond market, with turnover increasing by 72.09% from the previous week. The All Share Index (DSEI) rose by 0.91%, driven by gains in cross-listed stocks, while all other indexes posted declines. NMG emerged as the top gainer with a 19.05% increase, while TPCC led losses, declining by 9.44%.

This represents a 221.02% increase in turnover and a 92.77% increase in trading volume compared to Week 50, which had a turnover of TZS 3,873.82 million and 1,794,517 shares traded.

The bond market recorded a turnover of TZS 104.32 billion from 76 deals, marking a 72.09% increase from the previous week’s turnover of TZS 60.62 billion across 85 deals. Trades were dominated by 15-year and 25-year government bonds, with significant contributions from corporate bonds.

Indexes

The All Share Index (DSEI) was the only index to appreciate during the week, highlighting gains in cross-listed stocks. All other indexes experienced depreciation.
